Guwahati – The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has added a new Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) at Guwahati railway station, giving passengers a faster and easier way to buy tickets. The machine was opened by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava last Friday as part of a larger plan to bring over 100 ATVMs to major stations in the region.
The ATVM offers a quick, user‑friendly experience for unreserved train tickets, platform tickets and even season passes. Passengers can pay directly from their cards or mobile wallets, so they no longer need to stand in long queues at ticket counters. “It saves time and helps keep crowds in check,” said Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, NFR’s Chief Public Relations Officer. The machine also supports the national push for cashless transactions and digital India.
In addition to ticketing, NFR has installed 36 Water Vending Machines (WVMs) at 13 stations, including Guwahati. The WVMs provide clean, affordable drinking water around the clock. Travellers can refill a reusable container for just ₹3, or purchase a half‑litre bottle for ₹5. If passengers want to check water quality, a testing station is also available. This eco‑friendly service reduces the need for bottled water and promotes hygiene on the go.
“Adding the ATVMs and WVMs at Guwahati will greatly improve travel comfort for passengers,” NFR GM Shrivastava told reporters on the day of the launch. He emphasized NFR’s commitment to expanding such passenger‑friendly features across its network in the coming months.
Guwahati station is also working on sleeping pods, which are expected to open by December. These pods will provide a quiet place for overnight and long‑distance travelers to rest.
The new ATVM and WVM installations are part of NFR’s broader effort to modernise railway services, boost operational efficiency, and improve overall passenger satisfaction. Travelers can expect smoother ticketing, digital payments, clean water, and a more comfortable journey at Guwahati and other NFR stations.
