In a shocking daytime attack, a microfinance manager at Axis Bank lost his life to gunfire from unidentified criminals in Bihar’s Vaishali district. The incident unfolded near Kanchanapur village, under Bidupur police station, on Monday.
Rakesh Kumar, who lived in Sahebganj, Muzaffarpur, had joined the bank’s Kanchanapur branch in February. Police say he was riding his motorcycle back to work after approving a loan when three assailants ambushed him. They shot him in the stomach, and he died right there at the scene.
Sadar SDPO Subodh Kumar quickly arrived with his team and arranged for Rakesh’s body to go to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem. A Forensic Science Laboratory team also swept the area for clues, recovering a spent bullet.
“We’ve sealed the district borders and ramped up vehicle checks to catch these criminals before they slip away,” Kumar told reporters. “They won’t get far—we’ll arrest them soon.”
The bold shooting has locals up in arms about Bihar’s worsening law and order. One resident fumed, “What’s going on? People are getting killed in broad daylight, and these criminals act like they own the place—no fear of police or anyone.”
Bihar police haven’t pinned down a motive yet or identified the attackers. They’ve filed a murder FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Bidupur station. Investigators are poring over nearby CCTV footage, notifying Rakesh’s family, and interviewing the loan client he met earlier. They’re also reviewing his phone records and will talk to his Axis Bank colleagues for leads on what sparked the violence.
