Patna, Nov. 4 – Campaigning for the first phase of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections ends at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
All voters in 121 constituencies across 18 districts will head to the polls on Wednesday, Nov. 6. On the last day of canvassing, parties staged rallies, roadshows and public meetings. Now they are turning to door‑to‑door visits to win support.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has finished setting up the first round. Every polling booth is surrounded by strict security, with armed forces posted at all sites and 1,049 checkpoints spread throughout the state to keep the process safe. The border with Nepal has been fully sealed to block any outside interference.
In this phase, 1,314 candidates—1,192 men and 122 women—will fight for 102 general seats and 19 seats reserved for Scheduled Castes. A total of 3,75,13,302 voters are expected to cast ballots: 1,98,35,325 men, 1,76,77,219 women and 758 third‑gender voters.
The state has opened 45,341 polling stations, including 17 auxiliary booths. Urban areas host 8,608 booths, while rural areas account for 36,733. The ECI has already randomized and distributed electronic voting machines (EVMs) and VVPATs to each station and shared the list with all candidates.
Security measures include a three‑tier system: armed forces at each booth, ongoing monitoring, and a robust check‑point network. So far, 1,005 people have been detained in various related cases.
The first phase is politically critical. It covers key districts in the Patna division, Magadh, Tirhut, and Shahabad—regions that often decide the outcome of the assembly election. The second round of voting will happen on Nov. 11, with results announced on Nov. 14.
Bihar’s 2025 Assembly elections promise to shape the state’s political future. Stay tuned for more updates as the elections unfold.
