In Patna, political activity is heating up as the state prepares to form a new government. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be sworn in for a record‑setting 10th term on November 20 at the historic Gandhi Maidan.
The day before the oath, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United) [JDU] are holding key internal meetings. The JDU legislators meet at 11 a.m. in the home of Minister Shravan Kumar, while the BJP convenes at its state headquarters in Patna. After those sessions, a joint meeting of the NDA legislative party takes place in the Assembly’s Central Hall, where Nitish is formally elected as the leader of the coalition.
Once elected, Nitish will go to Raj Bhavan to claim the right to form the new government. The swearing‑in ceremony itself is set to be a grand affair. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda, several union ministers, chief ministers from other states and senior NDA figures are all expected to attend.
On Tuesday, Nitish visited Gandhi Maidan to inspect the arrangements, accompanied by prominent NDA leaders Samrat Chaudhary and Nitin Naveen, as well as senior state officials including Bihar’s Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit, DGP Vinay Kumar, Patna District Magistrate Tyagarajan S.M., and Police Superintendent Kartikeya K Sharma.
The organizers anticipate about 300,000 people will gather for the ceremony, making it one of the largest political gatherings in recent Bihar history. The event promises to showcase the coalition’s unity and the continued political legacy of Nitish Kumar in the state.
