Telangana BJP leaders in Hyderabad slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday for once again criticizing India and its democratic institutions while speaking abroad. They accused him of undermining the country instead of focusing on constructive opposition at home.
During an event at EIA University in Colombia, Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. He called the biggest threat to India an attack on its democracy. “India has so many religions, traditions, and languages,” Gandhi said. “A democratic system gives everyone a place. But right now, democracy faces threats from all sides.”
N. V. Subash, the chief spokesperson for Telangana BJP, fired back in a strong statement. He criticized Gandhi and Congress overseas convenor Sam Pitroda for what he called defending Pakistan and its cross-border terrorism, which has killed Indian civilians and security forces. Subash highlighted Pitroda’s controversial comment that he feels safer in Pakistan than in India. “That’s not just unacceptable—it’s ridiculous, and all 1.4 billion Indians should call it out,” Subash said. He praised the BJP leadership for labeling Gandhi the “Leader of Propaganda” in response.
Subash went further, saying Gandhi skips his role as Leader of the Opposition in India’s Lok Sabha by not debating policies properly. Instead, he heads overseas “with an agenda to defame the nation.” Spreading “white lies” about India and its constitutional bodies from foreign soil is “utterly reprehensible,” Subash added.
The BJP spokesperson also dismissed Gandhi’s claims of vote theft against India’s Election Commission. “If his allegations were true, why did Congress win 99 seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and do well in earlier state polls?” Subash asked. He noted that Gandhi refused to sign an affidavit letting the Election Commission investigate his accusations fully.
Subash urged Gandhi to show better judgment and put India’s interests first. “If the Gandhi family sees India as their true homeland, they must respect its laws and institutions,” he said. Otherwise, courts could act on pending cases, including questions about dual citizenship and election eligibility, he warned.
The Telangana BJP reaffirmed its focus on building a developed India, or Vikasit Bharat. It called on all leaders, including Congress allies, to avoid actions that hurt national unity.
