Burqa-clad voters should be verified by female officers on polling booths: Dilip Jaiswal urges CEC

In Patna, BJP Haryana chief Dilip Jaiswal met the chief election commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, on Saturday to lay out new ideas for the coming Bihar assembly elections. Jaiswal praised the Election Commission for completing a fair and timely revision of the voter list and then asked for stronger security and better voter identification at polling places.

He urged the deployment of central paramilitary forces in villages dominated by backward, extremely backward and Dalit communities. “A flag march in such areas could help voters feel safe,” Jaiswal said. The party also requested horse‑mounted brigades in Diara, Taal and embankment zones to prevent booth‑capturing by the opposition.

The BJP highlighted last year’s problems and offered fresh solutions. Timely distribution of voter slips is a priority, and Jaiswal warned the commission to send text‑message alerts and webcast a preview of the polls a day or two early. He also pushed for CCTV cameras at every polling station to deter wrongdoing.

Other demands include holding the election in one or two phases to cut candidates’ costs and ease administration. Voter protection was a key point: the CEC has stressed that Form 17C, which records the vote count, must be collected before poll agents leave the station. Jaiswal stressed that after the Model Code of Conduct is imposed, at least 28 days must pass before voting can start, and urged a quick decision on the election dates.
