New Delhi, Nov 15 – The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) teamed up with Rajasthan Police to arrest five people and seize more than a crore of rupees’ worth of chemicals in a covert lab in Daantrai village, Sirohi district.
The raid uncovered enough materials to produce roughly 100 kg of Mephedrone, a psychotropic drug that is now popular in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Dealers could earn up to ₹40 crore from that stash.
Sirohi police first spotted drums filled with chemicals and lab gear on the remote farmhouse on Nov 6. They handed the find to NCB officials in Jodhpur. After a quick forensic check by the National Forensic Science University, the NCB team confirmed the site was a clandestine Mephedrone factory.
Five suspects were then arrested across Rajasthan and Gujarat. The chief operator, V Ram of Jalore, was taken into custody. In police reports, V Ram is a graduate who failed the Civil Services exam and turned to drug manufacturing for quick cash. He leased the farmhouse under his associate’s name and used virtual SIMs and darknet forums to learn and run the operation.
The drugs were sourced from Ankleshwar, Gujarat, and the trucks used to move them were seized. Investigators recovered eight kilos of Mephedrone that the group had already made; two kilos had been seized earlier from an associate in October.
The NCB’s District‑Level Narco Coordination Centre meetings helped police spot red‑flag signs of hidden labs—such as covered windows, excessive ventilation, chemical stains and metal corrosion. This close cooperation gave the police an early warning and led to the successful bust.
The crackdown underscores the growing concern over synthetic street drugs and the growing partnership between law‑enforcement agencies across India to stop them.
