Cloudburst Hits Dehradun’s Sahastradhara, Leaves Two Missing Amid Heavy Rains
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is closely monitoring the situation after a sudden cloudburst struck Karligaad in Dehradun’s Sahastradhara area late Monday night. This popular tourist spot saw major destruction, with heavy debris crashing down and damaging two to three big hotels and several shops in the main market. The strong water currents swept away many shops, and two people are still missing.
Search and rescue teams are working hard to find them, but officials haven’t reported any confirmed deaths or huge property losses yet. CM Dhami shared his worry on X (formerly Twitter), saying, "Sad news has come in about damage to several shops from heavy rain last night in Sahastradhara, Dehradun. The administration, SDRF, and police are on the ground, carrying out relief and rescue operations."
He added that he’s in constant touch with local officials and personally keeping an eye on things. "I pray to God for everyone’s safety," the Chief Minister posted.
Rescue efforts are in full swing, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and the Public Works Department rushing to the scene. They’re using JCB machines and other equipment to clear debris and help those affected.
Heavy Rains Cause Floods and Rescues in Rishikesh
The relentless rains didn’t stop there. In Rishikesh, the Chandrabhaga River swelled up, flooding nearby roads. Three people—Khushpal Singh, Manoj Rawat, and Bobby Panwar—got stuck in the rushing water but SDRF teams quickly pulled them to safety.
Traffic chaos hit several spots too. Near Khara Srot in Muni Ki Reti, falling debris blocked roads and stranded many vehicles. A huge tree also crashed down near the PWD intersection, making things worse for commuters.
Tragic Incident in Haldwani: One Missing After Vehicle Swept Away
In Haldwani’s Kaladhungi police station area, things turned deadly around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. A Bolero vehicle tried to cross a rain-swollen drain but got swept away by the powerful current. Three people were inside—one youth is still missing, while locals bravely rescued the other two.
Eyewitnesses say the vehicle got carried downstream fast, but quick action by nearby residents saved two lives. Police, along with NDRF and SDRF teams, arrived immediately and started searching for the missing man.
Uttarakhand’s heavy rainfall this monsoon season has triggered multiple cloudburst incidents, floods, and roadblocks, putting rescue teams on high alert across Dehradun, Rishikesh, and Haldwani. Stay tuned for updates on the missing persons and ongoing relief work.
