In a big win against drug trafficking, Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) recently seized heroin worth around Rs 7.2 crore in the international market. The police also arrested two suspects in this carefully planned operation, based on specific intelligence tips.
The quick action happened after police received information about a drug consignment coming from a nearby state. Acting on this tip, STF officers set up a trap and stopped a vehicle in the Amingaon area, just outside Guwahati, on Wednesday. A search of the vehicle revealed a large quantity of heroin, which is a banned substance.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on social media, saying, “Based on intelligence input, we intercepted a vehicle from a neighboring state in Amingaon and recovered 910 grams of heroin. Two accused individuals have been arrested.” He praised the STF’s effort, reaffirming the government’s strong commitment to fighting drugs.
This seizure is part of Assam’s ongoing “War on Drugs,” a campaign that targets not only small-scale peddlers but also disrupts larger drug supply chains and financial networks behind illegal trade. The police are working hard to track the source of the drugs and understand how they are being distributed within the state.
The Assam Police have increased their vigilance along border areas, trying to stop illegal drugs from flowing into the region. Authorities are currently questioning the two suspects to gather more details about the drug network.
Chief Minister Sarma also highlighted how drug traffickers are becoming more innovative in their methods. He mentioned that smugglers are now using drones to deliver drugs across borders, making it even harder to catch them. “Traffickers are using new tactics like drones to deliver narcotics from distant places. This makes our fight tougher, but we are determined to continue,” he said.
The ongoing fight against drug gangs in Assam and neighboring Meghalaya remains a tough battle. Authorities warn that traffickers keep changing their methods to stay ahead, but police remain on high alert to curb the illegal drug trade in the region.
This operation shows the key role of Assam Police in tackling drug problems, and efforts are expected to continue until they can bring down the illegal networks once and for all.
