New Delhi – The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has seized assets tied to a cyber‑fraud scheme that targeted foreign citizens in India. Acting under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the ED took control of movable and immovable property worth 2.85 crore rupees on September 30.
The case involves Vikramjeet Singh and others who scammed U.S. citizens out of a total of 11.50 crore rupees. The ED stopped the sale of two homes—worth 1.26 crore rupees—purchased with stolen money. Those properties were registered under the names of Singh’s parents, Sarita Devi and Jasbir Singh. The agency also froze fixed deposits and bank balances that added up to 1.58 crore rupees.
The investigation began after Haryana Police filed a first information report based on a complaint from a U.S. citizen. ED officials say Singh, along with Anchal Mittal and a group of accomplices, ran a fake call centre posing as Bank of America employees. They gained illegal access to the victim’s computer and stole 11.54 crore rupees.
The stolen cash was used to buy cryptocurrency, which was later sold. The selling proceeds were moved through a network of bank accounts, many tied to relatives and other entities. Some of the proceeds were also spent on buying property in Singh’s family name, while he lent money to others and paid builders in advance with the illicit funds.
Earlier in July, ED searched the homes of Singh and his associates. They seized documents, digital devices and froze a further 43.58 lakh rupees held in suspect bank accounts. The latest property attachment is part of the agency’s ongoing crackdown on money laundering and cyber fraud targeting foreign nationals in India.
