On Saturday in Mumbai, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that the 26/11 attacks dealt a heavy blow to India’s sovereignty, likening the effect to the impact of the Twin Towers attack on U.S. sovereignty.

“Had a decisive response been given when the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack took place, perhaps such an attack would not have occurred again,” he added.

He went on to say that the situation has changed and that India now presents itself to the world as a strong, capable, and decisive nation. “After the Pahalgam attack, India demonstrated its capability to the world through ‘Operation Sindoor’ by striking terrorist bases in Pakistan,” he explained. “India is a nation that takes decisive action. Today, the country’s security apparatus is extremely robust. Even before the Delhi bomb blasts, security agencies foiled a major conspiracy by seizing large quantities of explosives and weapons,” the Chief Minister noted.

The remarks were delivered during the Global Peace Honour ceremony.

“Terrorists cannot fight a direct war, which is why they wage covert warfare. The war against terrorism is not over. Every citizen must remain alert to fight against terrorism, serving as the eyes and ears of security,” CM Fadnavis added.

At the event, senior police officer and former NIA chief Sadanand Date was specially honored. Despite sustaining serious injuries from a grenade attack at Cama Hospital, he refused to withdraw and engaged the attackers, neutralizing them.

Fadnavis reflected that even after 17 years, the wounds of the 26/11 attacks still linger in our hearts. “This event is significant for paying tribute to the martyrs of this attack that created an atmosphere of fear in Mumbai and across the country, and for keeping the memories of the martyrs alive,” he said. He warned that terrorist organisations are still attempting to destabilise the nation by targeting innocent citizens in Pahalgam, emphasizing that the threat of terrorism persists and every citizen must remain vigilant.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also spoke, describing the 26/11 assault as a strike against Mumbai’s culture, spirit and identity, yet the city neither stopped nor broke down. “We gave a firm response to this attack. India’s response to Pakistan after the Pahalgam attack is indicative of the nation’s changed strength,” he added.
