Ayodhya, Nov 10—On the day the Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Ram Temple, a young Hindu man in Ayodhya marked the anniversary by marrying his Muslim girlfriend in a Hindu ceremony. The wedding, performed under Sanatan Dharma rituals, was seen by the couple as a new start for their lives.
Abhishek Yadav said he and 18‑year‑old Indima Khan had known each other for three years. He explained that when Indima’s family learned of the relationship, they opposed it because she is a Muslim. “They pressured her, so she ran away,” Abhishek told reporters. “Her mother then accused me of abduction, and an FIR was filed. I was jailed even though she wasn’t with me. After I was released, I decided to marry her.”
The couple chose the Supreme Court’s landmark Ramjanmabhoomi‑Babri Masjid verdict date to tie the knot. “We both married voluntarily. We picked this day because the court gave the verdict for the Ram Temple on this very date,” Abhishek added.
Indima Khan, who also goes by Mehak Yadav, confirmed that the decision was made without outside pressure. “We’ve been together for three years. I’m 18 now. We had a Hindu wedding and are happy. My parents made false claims before, but now we just want protection,” she said.
Mahant Sant Das, who blessed the ceremony, noted the couple’s long‑standing relationship and their desire for a Sanatan Dharma wedding.
The Supreme Court’s 2019 verdict resolved India’s decades‑long dispute over the Babri Masjid site. The five‑judge bench ruled that a temple should be built on the disputed land and that a 5‑acre plot be given to the Muslim community for a mosque. The decision ended one of the country’s most contentious legal and religious battles.
