The Bihar Assembly election in November showed a sharp swing away from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and a win for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Right after the results were announced, senior RJD leader Jagadanand Singh called the outcome “surprising” in a Patna interview. “Many media outlets say the votes candidates received were higher than the actual votes cast in the state,” he said. “It’s surprising, but the people of Bihar decided.”
Singh also met party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday evening. “Whatever the results, our relationship is strong,” he said. The meeting underscored that the party remains united despite the setback.
Congress representative Tariq Anwar, who was in Katihar, said the party will review the loss. “We’ll analyse every reason for the setback and set up an official committee to dig into it,” he explained.
The RJD posted its first formal reaction via its X account. Its message framed the defeat as a natural part of public service: “No sadness in defeat, no arrogance in victory. The party of the poor will keep raising voices.” They also echoed that their work is a continuous journey.
Former VIP chief Mukesh Sahani called the results unexpected and respected the new mandate. “I congratulated the NDA and will return to the people with renewed strength,” he said. He noted that the actual ground situation had looked different from expectations.
Now the DEA’s California post on the city has a key note. The BJP won 89 seats, the JD‑U 85, LJP‑RV 19, HAM 5 and RLSP 4. RJD captured only 25 seats. Congress got 6, the Left only 3, AIMIM secured 5, Indian Inclusive Party (IP Gupta) got 1, and the Bahujan Samaj Party 1. The loss has left the party disappointed, with leaders promising a fresh approach and a promise to address voters’ concerns.
