In Gujarat, the BJP has just handed a new leadership role to veteran politician Jagdish Panchal. The appointment was announced on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Ministers CR Patil and Bhupendra Yadav, along with other senior party leaders. Jagdish Panchal, a long‑time MLA from Ahmedabad and former state cabinet minister, will steer the party’s strategy across the state.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi praised Panchal’s grassroots background, saying that party workers are excited to welcome him. “He will work hand‑in‑hand with every volunteer,” Sanghavi told the crowd. Panchal’s experience at the state level is seen as a boost for the party’s organisational strength.

Meanwhile, the city of Surat is set to launch a new flagship project: the PM Ekta Mall, also called the Unity Mall. The state government is investing ₹202 crore to build a modern shopping and exhibition hub that will showcase “One District, One Product” goods, Geographic‑Indication (GI)‑tagged items, and traditional handicrafts from across India. The mall is part of the Union Budget 2023‑24’s push under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and “Vocal for Local” campaigns.

Chief Minister Patel’s office confirmed that the government has allocated land for the mall and is speeding up construction to give local artisans and MSMEs a national platform. The project aims to encourage consumers to buy domestically produced goods, a key focus of the national movement spearheaded by NITI Aayog.

With Panchal as state president and the Unity Mall opening in Surat, Gujarat is putting a strong emphasis on local industry and party organisation, pointing to a fresh push for economic growth and self‑reliance. The moves come as part of a broader push for “Vocal for Local” and the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative that promotes domestic manufacturing and consumer preference for home‑grown products.
