Srinagar, Nov. 27 (LatestNewsX) – The Jammu & Kashmir Anti‑Corruption Bureau (ACB) announced on Thursday that it has initiated a major disproportionate assets (DA) investigation against Malik Tahir Gani, the Director of State Motor Garages, following a covert inquiry.
The ACB said its secret probe uncovered a vast array of properties, bank accounts, and commercial holdings that allegedly far outweigh the usual sources of funds for Mr. Gani, the motor‑garage director.
According to the bureau, a confidential verification was carried out based on particular evidence, looking into allegations that Malik Tahir Gani, son of Abdul Gani Malik and resident of H‑No. 185‑A, Sanat Nagar, Srinagar (currently Q‑No. 55‑C, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu), had amassed extensive assets while serving in various posts such as ARTO Anantnag, Pulwama, and now as Director of State Motor Garages in J&K.
The investigation revealed that, in each posting, Mr. Gani had accumulated large holdings—including plots, houses, shops, shopping complexes, and bank accounts—held in his name or in the names of relatives. These assets were deemed highly disproportionate compared to his legitimate earnings.
“From the investigation, a prima facie case of criminal misconduct has been established against Mr. Malik Tahir Gani under offences punishable under Section 13(1)(b) as amended by Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988,” the ACB stated.
Consequently, the bureau registered a formal first information report (FIR) No. 11/2025 at the P/S ACB Central for further inquiry.
“Search warrants were secured from the Hon’ble Special Judge anti‑corruption court in Jammu to conduct the investigations,” the ACB added.
The bureau subsequently carried out searches at four sites: Mr. Gani’s residences in Sanat Nagar and Hyderpora, Srinagar; his residential quarters at 55‑C Gandhi Nagar, Jammu; and the official office at New Plot, Jammu.
“During the searches, the ACB recovered and seized incriminating evidence, and the investigation is continuing,” the statement concluded.
