In Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, urged the state’s higher‑learning institutions to focus on lifelong learning and community engagement. He addressed the 36th meeting of the Executive Council at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) on Monday, calling for a complete overhaul of the university’s curriculum to align with the National Education Policy‑2020 and transform SMVDU into a premier national institute.
Sinha announced a mandate for the university to review all ongoing initiatives and programmes. The goal is to keep course content fresh, improve enrollment, tie stronger links with industry, and add new short‑term skill courses. He also highlighted the importance of research, innovation, and incubation, and urged the university to strengthen its faculty and staff.
A key point was the creation of a dedicated language faculty. SMVDU will offer integrated courses in Hindi, Dogri, French, and German, and students in foreign‑language or technical programs will be encouraged to study Hindi and Dogri as well. The governor also required full digitisation of all university records and the implementation of the e‑Samarth dashboard to manage the student lifecycle.
The Executive Council reviewed current construction projects, admissions, faculty promotions, and other administrative matters. It noted that SMVDU is now a “TCS Priority College,” a three‑year partnership with Tata Consultancy Services that will help boost campus placements for students.
Vice‑Chancellor Dr. Pragati Kumar presented the agenda items to the council. The meeting also had a broad attendance, including vice‑chancellors from Jammu University, Kashmir University, and Ahmedabad University, as well as senior administrative officials and the Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor.
