BRS Leader KT Rama Rao Fires Back at Rahul Gandhi Over Vote Theft Claims
Hyderabad, Telangana: In a heated political showdown, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President KT Rama Rao has hit out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. Rao accused Gandhi of hypocrisy after the Congress leader raised fresh allegations of vote theft in elections. Instead, Rao pointed fingers at Congress for allegedly poaching 10 BRS MLAs in Telangana.
Speaking to on Friday, KT Rama Rao didn’t hold back. "Stealing MLAs is a bigger crime than vote theft, and Congress is doing exactly that in Telangana," he said. Rao claimed that these 10 MLAs, who won on BRS tickets, switched sides under Congress pressure. He demanded that Rahul Gandhi face legal action for abetting the defections.
Rao mocked Gandhi’s frequent talks about protecting the Constitution and justice. "You carry the Constitution everywhere and rant about vote theft, but what about your own party’s MLA poaching? In your Nyay Patra manifesto, you promised automatic disqualification for defecting MLAs. Why the silence now? Did this happen on your orders? Rahul Gandhi should be ashamed and booked for this crime," Rao added.
This fiery response comes right after Rahul Gandhi’s press conference in Delhi on September 18. There, Gandhi targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of shielding "vote chors" – people who manipulate elections. Gandhi claimed the CEC knows about frauds like adding fake voters or deleting real ones from voter lists. He even said he has "10 per cent proof" of this protection racket.
Gandhi warned that a bigger expose, which he called the "Hydrogen Bomb," is still coming. He alleged a systematic plot to cut votes from minority groups that usually back Congress. As an example, he pointed to the Aland constituency in Karnataka, where someone tried to delete over 6,000 voter names ahead of the 2023 elections.
"We don’t know how many votes got deleted across the 2023 polls, but in Aland, 6,018 votes were targeted. It came to light by chance – a booth-level officer spotted her uncle’s name missing from the list," Gandhi explained during the briefing.
This isn’t the first clash between the two. Just days earlier, on September 15, KT Rama Rao, often called KTR, labeled Rahul Gandhi a hypocrite. Again speaking to , KTR repeated his charge of Congress stealing 10 BRS MLAs. He urged the Assembly Speaker to disqualify them immediately and restore fairness in Telangana politics.
As tensions rise ahead of key elections, this back-and-forth highlights the growing accusations of electoral misconduct and political defections in India. Both sides are digging in, with BRS demanding accountability from Congress on MLA poaching and Gandhi pushing for cleaner vote processes.
