On Monday in Bengaluru (LatestNewsX), Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar tried to defuse the simmering power struggle in Karnataka, insisting that the Chief Minister’s declaration is “final” and labeling him a “great asset” to the party.

He was first questioned near Shidlaghatta and later at his home in Sadashivanagar, where he reiterated that “Siddaramaiah is a great asset to the party. We are working under his guidance.”

When reporters asked about Siddaramaiah’s comment that everyone—Shivakumar included—should accept the “High Command” decisions, Shivakumar replied that the entire group respects the senior leadership and that no one has publicly talked about any power‑sharing arrangements.

He went on to say that the press is creating unnecessary headlines and confusion, adding that both he and the party’s senior cadre are clear on the issue. “If there’s a problem, the party High Command will handle it, and any resolution will stay within an internal closed‑door process,” he stressed.

Regarding a meeting with AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Shivakumar claimed he had already seen him in Delhi recently and would only visit again if the situation truly required it. He emphasized that it is pointless to bother Kharge needlessly.

“Media coverage is giving them the illusion that D.K. Shivakumar just strolls in and out for a coffee break, which only fuels anxiety,” he told reporters. “In truth, no one in the party is facing any real issue.”

When pressed about MLA H.C. Balakrishna’s trip to Delhi, Shivakumar defended the move, noting that the party’s Delhi office is a hub for aspiring politicians, and that no one is preventing them from going. “What’s wrong with wanting to build a future?” he asked.

On accusations of breaking party discipline, he maintained that violations arise only when someone openly criticises or sabotages the party, not simply when members seek ministerial positions. “A cabinet reshuffle is inevitable, so the aspirants are naturally hoping for a chance.”

Lastly, when asked to comment on the “rubber‑stamp president” jab from the JD(S)‑BJP and the role of the “High Command,” Shivakumar explained that the party has a committee made up of several leaders. He noted that as KPCC President, he cannot unilaterally decide on matters—he consulted Siddaramaiah, the district‑in‑charge ministers, the president, and the candidates before finalizing any list.

He concluded that decisions on the election committee are a collective effort, not the prerogative of a single individual.
