Mumbai’s political scene is heating up as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ramps up Shiv Sena’s preparations for the upcoming municipal elections, especially the high-stakes Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls.
On Sunday, Shinde, who also leads Shiv Sena, gathered branch heads and office bearers in Mumbai for a key meeting. He stressed how these grassroots leaders form the party’s backbone and will drive their success in the elections.
“The municipal polls announcement could come any day now,” Shinde said. “That’s why I called this meeting with our branch heads today. They’re our real strength—they tackle everyday problems for people in their neighborhoods. Right now, everyone’s fired up, and once the elections are official, we’ll hit the ground running with full prep.”
Shinde highlighted Shiv Sena’s long history of strong showings in elections, from national Lok Sabha races to state Vidhan Sabha seats and local municipal battles. The party’s workers, he noted, excel at mobilizing support on the streets.
“Our branch heads are determined,” he added. “They want the Shiv Sena flag waving high over the municipal corporations, especially the BMC. And the next mayor? It’ll definitely be from our Mahayuti alliance.”
The session zeroed in on spotting and fixing local issues that everyday citizens deal with, like potholes or water shortages. Shinde pointed out that this hands-on approach at the neighborhood level is what builds real trust with voters and sets Shiv Sena apart.
These BMC elections will test Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, which now heads the state government alongside the BJP and other Mahayuti partners. They’re aiming to hold onto their sway over Mumbai’s civic affairs and keep delivering for the city’s residents.
