Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a wave of development in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, launching 13 major projects worth more than Rs 5,127 crore during a lively public rally at Indira Gandhi Park in Itanagar. The event highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s push toward faster growth, with key focuses on hydropower, infrastructure, and tourism that could create jobs and boost local communities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah celebrated the moment on social media platform X, calling it a “historic occasion.” He praised the Modi government for guiding Arunachal Pradesh to the “peak of progress” through initiatives in power production, healthcare, connectivity, and welfare. “These projects will tap the state’s true potential and add new impetus to its growth,” Shah added, thanking Modi for the effort.
Development of North Eastern Region Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia echoed the excitement in his own X post. He noted how the projects will generate employment and opportunities for the youth, preserve the region’s culture and heritage, and bring fresh energy to Northeast India’s social and emotional development.
At the heart of the launches were two big hydropower projects by the state-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO), developed in partnership with the Arunachal Pradesh government. The 186-MW Tato-I hydroelectric project and the 240-MW Heo hydroelectric project on the Yargyap River in Shi Yomi district will together produce 426 MW of power and generate 1,803 million units annually. These efforts, costing over Rs 3,700 crore, promise big wins for the state: free power worth more than Rs 98 crore each year, plus a Local Area Development Fund of over Rs 16 crore for community projects.
Modi also unveiled plans for a modern integrated convention centre in Tawang, set to cost Rs 147 crore. This hub will host meetings, conferences, and exhibitions while opening doors to tourism, services, and handicrafts jobs for locals.
Rounding out the announcements, the Prime Minister greenlit 10 more infrastructure projects valued at Rs 1,291 crore. Standouts include the ambitious 1,830-km Frontier Highway to improve border connectivity and the second phase of the Vibrant Village Programme, aimed at uplifting remote areas and strengthening security along the frontiers.
These Arunachal Pradesh development initiatives under PM Modi signal a brighter future for the Northeast, blending economic growth with cultural pride and community support.
