Raisen, Nov 26 (LatestNewsX) – A brutal assault on a six‑year‑old girl in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh has inflamed local tensions, after residents found out that the accused is a member of the Muslim minority.
Despite exhaustive searches over the past five days, police have not yet apprehended the suspect, who has been identified as 23‑year‑old Salman.
The backlash over the delay has sparked unrest in the Goharganj area, where demonstrators claimed Salman is a Muslim.
On Wednesday, a group of young people staged a peaceful protest at the front of Gauharganj school, surrounded by a tight police cordon. They then attempted to walk toward a Muslim settlement (basti), but security forces intercepted them before they could reach the area. Angry protestors threw stones at the police, who had to use force to disperse the crowd.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Prashant Khare said the situation is now under control and confirmed that additional contingents from nearby districts, including Bhopal, had been brought in.
Earlier that day, large numbers of right‑wing activists from various organizations joined the protest, carrying posters with slogans such as “Batoge to Katoge” and “Jai Sri Ram”.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has openly expressed his frustration at the police’s failure to capture Salman, who has now remained at large, and his criticism of the “lax response” in managing the uproar.
Citing these concerns, the Chief Minister ordered the transfer of SP Vivek Pandey of Raisen on Tuesday and instructed the Director General of Police to intensify the search for Salman.
On November 21, Salman is alleged to have enticed the child—who was playing outside her home—into a nearby forest with the promise of chocolate, only to assault her there. The victim was discovered unconscious in the woods and transported to AIIMS Bhopal for treatment.
