Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel has named Milind Dattatreya Dandekar as the new Kulguru of Madhya Pradesh Bhoj Open University in Bhopal. The government announced this move in a statement on Tuesday.
Dandekar, who works in the Department of Industrial Production Engineering at Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science in Indore, will serve a four-year term starting from the day he takes charge. He stays in the role until he turns 70. His terms follow the university’s Ordinance 1-A.
This appointment comes at a tricky time for Bhoj Open University. The school has faced backlash for years over claims of irregularities in hiring professors and staff. Critics say officials brought in experts from unrelated fields to pick candidates, which broke the rules.
Back in 2015, these hiring issues landed in the Madhya Pradesh High Court. In April this year, the court stepped in and canceled several appointments, including those for professors. Judges found the selection committee skipped proper checks on applicants’ academic backgrounds. They left some score columns empty without reasons and overlooked strong candidates by handing out high interview marks to others—hinting at favoritism.
A division bench later upheld this decision, tossing out a lower court’s ruling. They ordered fresh job ads to restart the process fairly.
