Umaria, Nov 23 (LatestNewsX) – A road accident on Sunday morning in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh claimed one life and left 12 people wounded, sending shockwaves through the area.
The crash happened near the Barambaba temple, inside the jurisdiction of the Chandia police station. A tourist bus, said to be carrying visitors from Kolkata, struck a parked truck around 5:30 a.m.
Those on the bus had just come back from a safari at the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and were headed toward Khajuraho when the collision struck. Eyewitnesses reported a loud bang as the speeding vehicle lost control and slammed into the stationary truck.
Tragically, a woman on the bus died on the spot, while 12 others suffered injuries ranging from serious to moderate. Local residents rushed to the scene, alerted the authorities, and helped move the injured to the Umaria district hospital, where they are receiving emergency care.
Police from Chandia reached the site shortly after being notified and began rescue operations. The injured – men, women, and possibly children – are currently being treated at the hospital. Some doctors have indicated that a few patients are in critical condition.
Preliminary findings point to over‑speeding or driver error as possible causes, though a full investigation is still underway. The parked truck was reportedly on the roadside without proper reflectors or warning signs, raising concerns about safety on this frequented tourist route.
At present, the police have not released the victims’ identities. A case has been registered, and both vehicles have been seized. The body of the deceased woman has been sent for a post‑mortem.
The incident has reignited public outrage over repeated accidents along the Umaria–Katni–Khajuraho corridor, a vital stretch for tourists heading to Bandhavgarh. Local residents and activists are calling for stricter traffic enforcement, removal of illegally parked heavy vehicles, and better road signage.
