On November 22, the grand Nagar Kirtan that marks the 350th anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom was warmly received by Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains and Member of Parliament Malwinder Singh Kang when it entered Anandpur Sahib. Devotees greeted the holy procession with Khalsa fervour, spirit and enthusiasm.
The Kirtan began its journey from the sacred Tap Asthan of Baba Farid‑ji in Qila Mubarak, Faridkot district, and upon reaching Anandpur Sahib, the gathering was honored with a grand welcome.
Punjab Police sent a guard of honour for the procession, and Minister Bains presented ‘siropas’ to the Panj‑Pyare Sahiban and the five Nishanchi Sahiban who joined the Kirtan. Baba Lakha Singh Nanaksar, a key contributor to the event, was also felicitated.
Local authorities, the community, and various organizations greeted the Kirtan with enthusiasm. Devotees poured flower petals over the Palki Sahib— the palanquin carrying the Guru Granth Sahib—as a sign of devotion.
After arriving at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, Minister Bains laid the Guru Granth Sahib reverently at Gurdwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib.
The route from Faridkot took the procession through Ferozepur, Moga, Jagraon, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib and Chamkaurh Sahib before concluding in Anandpur Sahib.
Anandpur Sahib, founded in 1665 by the ninth Guru—Guru Tegh Bahadur—who named the city Chak Nanaki after his mother, Mata Nanaki, is being decorated in honour of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the founding Guru, celebrated from November 23 to 25. The city, situated on the foothills of the Shivalik range where Guru Gobind Singh spent much of his time, has been painted white as a mark of reverence for the enduring warrior spirit—Hind di Chadar—that inspired the quest against injustice and tyranny.
