Indian Navy chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi met top U.S. commanders during his visit to New Delhi on November 15. The talks focused on ways the two navies can deepen their partnership and improve security across the Indo‑Pacific.
The chief of staff spent the day in a series of high‑level meetings with U.S. commanders: Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, the commander of U.S. Indo‑Pacific Command; Admiral Stephen T. Koehler, the commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet; and Lt. Gen. James F. Glynn of US Marine Forces Pacific. The discussions covered several key pillars of defense cooperation.
Admiral Tripathi and his U.S. counterparts reviewed ways to strengthen maritime security and maritime cooperation, boost interoperability, and broaden joint operations across the region. They also talked about sharing information more closely, raising maritime domain awareness, and using existing frameworks like the Indo‑Pacific Maritime Data Exchange and ties with the International Forum for Information Sharing.
The talks reaffirmed the long‑standing relationship between the Indian and U.S. navies and highlighted a shared focus on safeguarding sea lanes and key underwater infrastructure. Joint disaster‑relief (HADR) and search‑and‑rescue missions, anti‑piracy efforts, and handling non‑traditional security threats were also on the agenda.
Both sides agreed to step up complex bilateral and multilateral exercises such as MALABAR, PASSEX, and the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) or MILAN frameworks. These drills aim to sharpen joint combat skills, logistics, and sustainment. The meeting also touched on emerging domains: unmanned systems, ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance), cyber, and space‑enabled maritime operations—all critical for staying ready and resilient at sea.
Beyond the talks, the Indian Navy announced it will host Swavlamban 2025 on November 25‑26 at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. The event will bring together innovators, startups, industry, and the armed forces to showcase breakthrough technologies and indigenous solutions. The focus will be on the Navy’s move toward Aatmanirbharta (self‑reliance) and India’s broader drive toward a developed nation (Viksit Bharat).
These developments underscore a deepening partnership between the Indian and U.S. navies, a growing synergy with U.S. Marine forces, and a shared commitment to a free, open, inclusive, and rules‑based Indo‑Pacific.
