The new Haryana Congress chief, Rao Narendra Singh, officially took over his post at the party’s headquarters in Chandigarh on Monday afternoon. The ceremony drew top party leaders, including former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, former Union minister Chaudhary Birender Singh, Congress general secretary and MP Randeep Surjewala, former state president Chaudhary Udaybhan and MP Deepender Singh Hooda.
Rao Singh thanked the people of Haryana for rallying behind the party at the district level. “I will bring the party’s policies straight to the people,” he said, pledging to strengthen Congress’s presence across the state. He highlighted concerns that the constitution is vulnerable and elections are unfairly taken over. He compared the situation to Bihar’s Mahagathbandhan and promised to build a similar momentum in Haryana.
The new president also spoke about farmers. “Yesterday Bhupinder Hooda visited the markets, and I will do the same soon,” he said. “Farmers face trouble with grain prices, especially paddy and millet. The government should announce a bonus for them.”
MP Deepender Hooda added that Congress will be a robust opposition in Haryana and praised the leadership for appointing Bhupinder Hooda as the head of the party’s assembly unit and Rao Narendra Singh as state president. Randeep Surjewala congratulated him, calling him hardworking, capable and brave. He noted that Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge entrusted him with this responsibility.
The appointment was announced earlier this week, effective immediately, and marks a new chapter for the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee.
