Bhubaneswar, Dec 3 – On the same day LatestNewsX reported that Odisha authorities were intensifying action against unauthorized Bangladeshi and Rohingya residents, the BJP publicly denounced Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra. She had claimed that the Nayagarh police had “illegally thrown out” four Bengali immigrants, a statement the BJP criticized heavily.
BJP spokesperson Anil Biswal fired back on Wednesday, questioning why MP Moitra would show such concern for Bangladeshi infiltrators. He added that the people of Odisha need no guidance from anti‑national elements, and that the Trinamool Congress has historically shored up illegal Bangladeshi entrants, thus endangering the state’s security.
Biswal stressed Odisha’s determination to rid itself of these infiltrators, praising the police for carrying out their duties responsibly and effectively. He urged the Trinamool MP to focus on her own constituency, warning that false accusations risk souring relations between Odisha and West Bengal. He reaffirmed that all Bangladeshi infiltrators would eventually be identified and removed.
Meanwhile, senior Congress MLA Ashok Kumar Das argued that the government had not accumulated enough data before making such a decisive move. He pointed out that speaking Bengali does not automatically label someone as Bangladeshi. “It is wrong to brand every Bengali‑speaking person as a Bangladeshi,” he said. “Only those engaged in unlawful activity or residing illegally should be singled out; legitimate residents and workers should be protected.”
Das added that a comprehensive survey and accurate documentation were necessary, allowing legitimate residents to remain.
Earlier that day, Moitra had alleged that on 27 November the Nayagarh police had illegally expelled four immigrants from neighbouring West Bengal. On her X account she wrote: “Attention @DGPOdisha @spnayagarh — you have illegally thrown out 4 Bengali‑speaking Indian citizens from Nayagarh district simply because they were Bengalis. There are lakhs of Odia cooks, gardeners, plumbers and others working in Bengal whom we treat with love and respect. You will pay for your actions. Watch out.”
In a video posted to X, Moitra identified the migrants as coming from Sagarpara village in the Jalangi Assembly constituency, Domkal subdivision, Murshidabad district, West Bengal. She said they had lived and earned a living in Nayagarh for 18 years, and that some of their fathers had previously worked there.
Moitra also warned that she would take legal action against the Odisha Director General of Police and Nayagarh Superintendent of Police S. Susree over the incident.
