Bhubaneswar, Nov 25 (LatestNewsX) – The Police Commissionerate has orchestrated extensive security measures ahead of President Droupadi Murmu’s upcoming visit to the capital and the opening of the Odisha Legislative Assembly’s winter session, which is slated to kick off this Thursday.
The city will operate under a comprehensive four‑tier security scheme for the president’s arrival. After assessing the Assembly’s protective setup, Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh highlighted that a key driver for the heightened vigilance is President Murmu’s address to the Assembly.
“Security plans cover both the presidential visit and the Assembly session,” Singh said. “We have deployed 33 platoons and about 150 officers across various ranks for the Assembly. A specialised anti‑terror team will also be present during the session.”
He added that an extra 25 platoons will be positioned along critical routes—from the airport to Raj Bhawan, and from Raj Bhawan to the Assembly—to safeguard the president’s itinerary.
“We reviewed the Assembly’s arrangement and realigned resources at several points,” Singh explained. “The Police Commissionerate is fully equipped to manage the president’s visit and the Assembly proceedings.”
The winter session will commence on November 27. This will be the fifth meeting of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly, spanning 29 working days and concluding on December 31. The House is scheduled to receive the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure (Budget) for the 2025–26 fiscal year on November 28.
Experts predict that the session will feature vigorous debates between the ruling BJP and the opposition parties, BJD and Congress, over a range of issues.
