On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent birthday wishes to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, lauding his “tireless” effort to make parliamentary work both “productive” and “people‑centric.”
Birla is a veteran BJP figure born to Shrikrishna Birla and Shakuntala Devi in a Marwari Hindu family. He earned a master’s degree in commerce from Government Commerce College in Kota and from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University in Ajmer.
He now serves as the 18th Speaker of the Lok Sabha, having been re‑elected to the post on June 26. Before his parliamentary role, he was the MLA for Kota South in the Rajasthan Assembly from 2003 to 2014. Birla won the 2024 Speaker election as the NDA’s nominee and has represented the Kota Lok Sabha seat three times.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “My best wishes to Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla Ji on his birthday. He is known for his calm leadership and unifying presence in the House.”
PM Modi went on to praise Birla’s commitment to strengthening the legislative process, fostering constructive debate and preserving Parliament’s dignity—an effort that has earned him wide respect.
“He has worked tirelessly to make Parliament productive and people‑centric. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life in the service of the nation,” the Prime Minister added.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also congratulated the Speaker on X: “Warm wishes to Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla ji on his birthday. His thoughtful conduct and firm commitment to strengthening parliamentary processes have added great value to India’s democratic journey. May he be blessed with good health, long life and continued strength to serve the nation.”
Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari posted, “Heartfelt birthday wishes to Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla ji. I pray to God for your excellent health, long life, and a blissful life.”
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, expressed his regards and described Birla as having “an eloquent oratory, a simple and straightforward demeanour, and a diligent personality.” He noted that Birla’s “visionary and balanced leadership has further strengthened the democratic decorum in Parliament.”
Sharma added that through “new traditions of dialogue, cooperation, and meaningful deliberation,” Birla has helped forge “an inspiring path of politics that places public welfare above all.” He also praised Birla’s contribution to the “sacred yagna of nation‑building” as exceptionally commendable.
Concluding his message, the Chief Minister offered a prayer to Lord Ram, hoping Birla would enjoy “excellent health, long life, and the continuous strength for public service.”
