Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in the remote village of Kombo, West Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, on a virtual podium from the Narmada district in Gujarat. The first step of a nationwide push to give tribal children in isolated regions a high‑quality education and living facilities, the school will be built and run by the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Voters in the district will soon see a campus dedicated to learning, extracurricular activities, and student welfare. Officials say the EMRS will help break cycles of illiteracy and attraction parents from across the hill state to seek better futures for their children.
Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K.T. Parnaik and Arunachal’s Chief Minister Pema Khandu joined Modi’s livestream and praised the school’s potential to strengthen indigenous educational infrastructure. “These schools will build bridges to a brighter tomorrow for our tribal communities,” the governor said.
Back in Imphal, the Manipur state government marked Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, the national celebration of tribal pride. The special event honored the 150th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The ceremony also paid tribute to local heroes like Rani Gaidinliu, who resisted colonial rule and championed tribal rights.
At the state capitol in Imphal, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, chief secretary, and other officials addressed a virtual audience, reiterating that the day reminds India of its shared heritage and the courage of tribal leaders. The governor highlighted how modern policies mirror the values of cooperation, environmental stewardship, and self‑governance that define Manipur’s tribes.
The Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills organized a closing round of awards. Certificates of Recognition—including the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan and Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan 2025—were handed to deputy commissioners of Senapati, Ukhrul, and Churachandpur districts. Winners of “Tribal Frames 2025” and “Tribal Lens 2025” also received prizes.
“We are committed to tribal welfare, in line with Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas,’” the governor added.
The event drew a mix of state legislators, senior officials, Padma Sri awardee Padma, and representatives of local tribal groups. As the nation celebrates Birsa Munda’s legacy, the new EMRS campus in Arunachal Pradesh symbolizes concrete progress toward inclusive education and equitable development for all tribal communities.
