Prime Minister Narendra Modi dove into the vibrant Durga Puja festivities in Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) on Tuesday, marking the special day of Maha Ashtami during Navratri.
Modi started his visit at the Kali Bari temple, where he offered prayers to kick off the celebrations. From there, he headed to the stunning Durga Puja pandal organized by the CR Park Durga Pooja Cooperative Society at Kali Mandir. He paid his respects to Goddess Durga and led the aarti, immersing himself in the sacred rituals.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta joined Modi for the occasion, adding to the lively atmosphere.
CR Park, often called Delhi’s mini Bengal, lights up every year with its famous Durga Puja events. You’ll find colorful pandals, tasty food stalls serving Bengali delights, and exciting cultural performances that draw crowds from all over the city. Thousands flock here to soak in the joy and tradition.
Across India, Durga Puja has kicked off with full energy. Families and friends are heading to pandals everywhere, checking out creative themes and unique decorations that make each spot feel magical.
Earlier in the day, Modi shared warm wishes for Maha Ashtami on social media. In a post on X, he wrote: “Heartiest greetings to all fellow countrymen on the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami of Navratri. My wish is that this sacred occasion brings happiness, peace, and excellent health into everyone’s life.” He also posted a beautiful recital of prayers to the goddess.
Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsava or Sharodotsava, celebrates Hindu goddess Durga’s triumph over the demon Mahishasura. It’s a major festival full of devotion, music, and community spirit. This year, it runs from September 28 (Shashthi) through October 2 (Vijayadashami).
