Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Maharashtra on October 8‑9 2025, marking a big push for India’s new aviation and transport projects and a historic first visit by the UK’s Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.
### Arrival in Navi Mumbai
At about 3 pm on October 8, Modi will land in Navi Mumbai for a walk‑through of the newly built Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). He will then open the airport at 3:30 pm and give a short speech to the gathered crowd. The Prime Minister will also unveil several new projects in Mumbai that aim to ease travel and boost economic growth.
### India‑UK Talks in Mumbai
On October 9, Modi will host UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at a ceremony in Mumbai at 10 am. The meeting will focus on the India‑UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership under Vision 2035, a 10‑year plan covering trade, technology, defence, climate, health and people‑to‑people ties. Both leaders will talk with business and policy experts about the India‑UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
At 1:40 pm, the two prime ministers will attend the CEO Forum at Jio World Centre, then head to the 6th Global FinTech Fest at 2:45 pm where they will deliver keynotes. The festival brings together 100,000+ participants from 75 countries, 7,500 companies, 800 speakers and 400 exhibitors. Regulators from Singapore, Germany, France and Switzerland will also attend, showing the event’s global reach.
### Phases of Mumbai’s New Airport
Modi will inaugurate Phase 1 of NMIA, a PPP project costing roughly ₹19,650 crores. The greenfield airport covers 1,160 ha and can handle 90 million passengers and 3.25 million tonnes of cargo per year. Features include an Automated People Mover (APM), dedicated storage for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), 47 MW of solar power, electric bus services and India’s first airport‑water‑taxi service.
### Mumbai Metro Line‑3 Expansion
The Prime Minister will also open Phase 2B of Metro Line‑3 (Aqua Line), stretching from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade at a cost of ₹12,200 crores. Line‑3 already runs 33.5 km with 27 stations and serves over 1.3 million passengers a day. Phase 2B will link South‑Mumbai heritage sites—Fort, Kala Ghoda, Marine Drive—directly to key financial hubs like the Bombay Stock Exchange, Reserve Bank of India and the State High Court.
### Integrated Mobility App: Mumbai One
Modi will launch “Mumbai One,” an integrated app that unites 11 public transport operators (metros, monorail, suburban rail, buses). The app offers digital tickets, real‑time journey updates, route maps, an SOS feature and a single dynamic ticket for multi‑mode trips, aiming to cut queues and boost commuter safety.
### Skill Development Initiative
Finally, Modi will open the Short‑Term Employability Program (STEP) across 400 government ITIs and 150 technical schools. The program will start 2,500 new training batches, including 364 for women and courses in AI, IoT, electric vehicles, solar energy and additive manufacturing, aligning skills with industry needs.
The visit underscores India’s ambition to become a global aviation hub, strengthen its ties with the UK, and modernise Mumbai’s transport network while boosting skill development for millions of citizens.
