Patna, Oct 6 – The Election Commission’s timetable for Bihar’s upcoming assembly polls has sparked a new wave of optimism from Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor, who says his party is poised to win this round.
Kishor told reporters that the numbers look promising. “Last election both major alliances captured 72 % of the vote,” he said. “The remaining 28 % can now swing to Jan Suraaj. Surveys show the alliances will lose about 10 % of their share, and those votes will move to us. That puts our potential total at roughly 48 %.” He added that critics who label the party a “vote‑cutter” should see it as a badge of honor, implying the party will siphon enough votes to weaken the rivals.
The two‑phase election schedule, announced by the Election Commission, pleased Kishor. “We were analysing the dates, and now the waiting game is over,” he said. “The people of Bihar no longer have to endure the same old voting patterns. This election will be about the future of their children, not simply about Modi, Nitish or Lalu.” He painted a vision of a Bihar that attracts students and workers from Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
In a sharp jab at Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Kishor referenced the recent Patna Metro launch. “Kumar’s last big ceremony was the metro opening. He may have done that by the time of the next polls, but I doubt he’ll be back for another celebratory moment.” He also welcomed the two‑phase format, saying it prevents long, rally‑heavy campaigns that benefit national parties. “Earlier, the polls were spread out so Modi could keep rallying. Now the BJP itself sees that multiple phases don’t change outcomes, so the elections will finish quickly,” he explained.
Jan Suraaj’s national president, Uday Singh, echoed the party’s enthusiasm. “Now that the elections are set for after Diwali and Chhath, many voters will be home for the festivals and ready to choose change,” he said.
The Jan Suraaj Party’s strategy banks on shifting a sizable block of the vote traditionally split between the two main alliances. If the polls deliver, Bihar’s political map could be reshaped, offering a fresh look at the state’s leadership in the 2024 assembly elections.
