Punjab Police Cracks Down on Cross-Border Drug Smugglers in Ferozepur
In a big win against drug trafficking, Punjab Police foiled a major cross-border smuggling attempt in Ferozepur. Officers arrested Sonu Singh, a local from Habibwala village, and seized a whopping 15.775 kilograms of heroin from him.
The Ferozepur Police team acted fast on solid intelligence tips. As Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) shared on X (formerly Twitter), this quick raid stopped the drugs from spreading further. "In a swift, intelligence-led operation, @FerozepurPolice dismantles a cross-border drug smuggling attempt by arresting Sonu Singh… and recover 15.775 kg of heroin," the post read.
Early probes point to a bigger network. The main operator sits in Kapurthala Jail, while the heroin shipment came straight from Pakistan-based smugglers. Police have filed an FIR under the NDPS Act and are digging deeper to uncover all links in this drug syndicate. Punjab Police stays committed to wiping out these networks and building a drug-free Punjab.
This bust isn’t a one-off. Just days earlier, Amritsar’s Counter-Intelligence unit smashed another Pakistan-linked smuggling ring dealing in arms and narcotics. They nabbed five suspects and grabbed six high-tech pistols—like Glock and PX5 models—along with 1 kg of heroin and Rs 6 lakh in dirty drug money.
DGP Gaurav Yadav posted on X about the Amritsar operation: "In an intelligence-led operation, Counter Intelligence, #Amritsar dismantles a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling module linked to Pakistan and apprehends five operatives…" The arrested men worked under orders from handlers in Pakistan, supplying weapons to gangsters and criminals in Punjab to stir up trouble.
An FIR under the NDPS Act and Arms Act now runs at the State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar. Investigations continue to unravel the full web of these cross-border smugglers.
These back-to-back successes show Punjab Police’s tough stance on drug smuggling and arms trafficking from Pakistan. Stay tuned as more details emerge on this ongoing fight for a safer Punjab.
