New Delhi – A year after the clashes triggered by the Jama Masjid survey in Sambhal on 24 November 2024, the town has settled into a quiet and orderly rhythm again.
Zafar Ali, who heads the Sambhal Jama Masjid, told LatestNewsX that the unrest last year is now behind them and that everyday life continues as it always has.
He said, “The incident of 24 November 2024 was unfortunate, but it is now a thing of the past. One year later, the city is completely normal. We have not issued any special instructions regarding namaz or any other arrangements. Everything will continue as usual. Hindus and Muslims are living together peacefully, and no unpeaceful matters are taking place.”
Adding that the police are actively policing the area and that the mosque’s own routine has not changed, he urged his fellow worshippers to stay united.
Residents echoed this perspective, lauding the local administration’s handling of the situation.
One resident remarked, “Sambhal has never received such administration before. The way they handled the situation, the city was saved from a major tragedy.”
Another added, “The administration is working very well, security forces are deployed everywhere, and people feel safe.”
In observance of the anniversary, authorities have thickened their security net throughout the district. The Sambhal Police remain on heightened alert, with extra units positioned in particularly sensitive locales.
A layered defensive scheme has been enacted, featuring patrols by RAF detachments, PAC personnel, and local police. Enhanced coverage around the Jama Masjid has been combined with additional teams stationed at other key spots.
Surveillance cameras now dot the site of last year’s violence and its surroundings, and the feeds are live‑monitored from the Satyavrat Chowki control room. Law officers continuously coordinate with on‑site teams to keep law and order firm.
The Jama Masjid in Sambhal, a stone‑laid relic from the reign of the first Mughal emperor Babur (1526‑1530), stands alongside the mosque at Panipat and the once‑prominent, now‑demolished Babri Masjid in Ayodhya.
As Sambhal marks its first anniversary of turmoil, both officials and community leaders stress the importance of continued peace, harmony and vigilance to preserve the city’s calm and security.
