The half‑naked body of an unidentified woman was found on the grounds of Alangidanga Primary School in Purulia district, West Bengal, police said on Saturday. The body was discovered near a wall on one side of the school, a school that was closed for the Durga Puja vacation.
Police were immediately called to the site and the body was taken for an autopsy at Purulia Government Medical College Hospital. An investigation has now been launched by the Purulia Sadar police station to figure out how the woman ended up on the school grounds and whether she was murdered or raped elsewhere before her body was dumped there. The findings will come with the autopsy report.
Detective officers are combing the area and checking missing‑person complaints from nearby communities to identify the deceased. The discovery has shocked residents who were celebrating the festive season. Even as idol immersion and processions are still happening on Saturday, the eerie find has put a shadow on the celebrations.
This case is part of a larger probe that West Bengal police are conducting into how the victim’s body ended up on a closed school’s premises during the busy Durga Puja period. The police are working to close the loop on the death and bring any possible answers to handy.
