Kolkata, Nov. 25 (LatestNewsX) — West Bengal’s chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, warned on Tuesday that the state could descend into turmoil once the draft voters’ list is released on December 9, marking the end of the first phase of the three‑stage Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
“Once the draft list comes out, chaos is bound to erupt. I can see it now,” she told a massive “anti‑SIR” rally in Bangaon, in North 24 Parganas. “Because of internet issues, booth‑level officers (BLOs) are struggling to upload the enumeration forms on the BLO App, and errors abound. I’ve heard that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used in the SIR exercise to replace genuine voters with fake ones.”
Banerjee reassured citizens that the state government would do everything possible to help people submit the necessary documents and keep their names on the register. “We don’t break our promises,” she said. “Our politics belongs to the welfare of the people. Rest assured, you’re safe as long as Trinamool Congress is in power.”
While she avoided naming names outright, Banerjee accused a BJP Lok Sabha MP from Bangaon and Union Minister of State Shantanu Thakur of neglecting the large Matua community in the town during this critical period, noting that Thakur had gone abroad after a number of people paid for the forms. “It’s a mystery why he left,” she said. “Maybe he fled to protect himself. We have all the records against him. If necessary, we’ll push for his arrest.”
Bangaon was chosen for the rally because of the sizeable Matua population there. The Trinamool Congress already warned that the SIR could lead to the removal of Matua names from the voters’ list. Matuas are a Hindu Backward Class group who migrated from neighboring Bangladesh, settling across West Bengal’s border districts, mainly Nadia and North 24 Parganas.
The BJP leadership, meanwhile, has assured the Matua electorate that, except for illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators who slipped into the list, no other worries are warranted regarding the revision exercise. publikasi.
