The Tamil Nadu government has started a fresh investigation into the deadly stampede that shook Karur last week.
On Saturday, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin told followers on X that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will launch a probe, following directions from the Madras High Court. The team will look into every aspect of the tragedy to find out exactly what happened and who is responsible.
CM Stalin said he is “acting with utmost seriousness” and that the state will leave no question unanswered. “Accountability will be fixed at every level,” he added. He emphasized that any mistake that led to the loss of lives will not be ignored.
The stampede in Karur cost dozens of lives and left many injured. “The tragedy has deeply shaken us all,” Stalin said. He shared the pain he feels for families who have lost loved ones and called the loss “irreparable.”
Beyond the investigation, the Chief Minister announced a long‑term safety plan to stop similar incidents in the future. Tamil Nadu will develop a state‑wide Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for managing large public gatherings. “We will bring together experts, political representatives, activists, and ordinary citizens,” he said. “The framework will serve Tamil Nadu and act as a model for the rest of India.”
Stalin urged political parties to stop blaming each other and focus instead on protecting lives. “Let us not engage in blame games over this tragedy. Every life is priceless,” he urged.
The state is open to suggestions from all sectors of society. By combining government action, expert advice and community involvement, Tamil Nadu aims to restore confidence and ensure that such a stampede never happens again.
