In Ayodhya, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman led a series of religious rites that highlighted the city’s spiritual importance.
She and her family joined aarti for Lord Ram Lalla at the newly completed Ram Janmabhoomi Temple on Thursday. The ceremony drew crowds chanting “Jai Shri Ram” as the air carried a gentle breeze from the Saryu River.
After the aarti, Sitharaman visited the Shri Ram Darbar, where she offered prayers to Goddess Durga, hailed as the Mother of the Universe. The minister also performed‑Rudrabhishek for Lord Mahadev on Kuber Tila, adding a profound layer of devotion to the day’s events.
Champat Rai, the general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, briefed the minister on temple construction progress. “I am proud to see the temple’s grandeur. Ayodhya remains a living expression of India’s faith, culture, and civilization,” Sitharaman said. The Trust welcomed her with a bouquet and discussed temple security, visitor arrangements, and future development plans, including preparations for the upcoming flag‑hoisting ceremony.
Other key figures attended. Uttar Pradesh finance minister Suresh Khanna, agriculture minister and Ayodhya district in‑charge Surya Pratap Shahi, and state chief minister Yogi Adityanath joined the Minister. Sitharaman had flown into Ayodhya on Wednesday for a two‑day visit, during which she unveiled statues of revered South Indian musical saints—Tyagaraja Swamigal, Purandara Dasa, and Arunachala Kavi—at Brihaspati Kund.
The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple’s completion has drawn pilgrims from all over India and abroad, who now experience a blend of ancient Ramayana heritage and modern Indian splendor. For many, Ayodhya is no longer just a city; it’s a living embodiment of India’s eternal faith, culture and civilization.
