Jaipur, Nov 15 – Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said on Saturday that the state’s tribal communities have long protected nature, culture, courage, and truth. He spoke at the Tribal Pride Day celebration in Dungarpur, on the 150th birthday of folk hero Lord Birsa Munda.
Sharma praised the “living stories” carried by tribal traditions, festivals and dances, calling them vital threads in Rajasthan’s cultural tapestry. He added that the state government will keep these traditions alive and showcase them worldwide.
The chief minister remembered two tribal icons. Govind Guru, who united the Bhil community through the Bhagat movement, and 12‑year‑old Kalibai, who gave her life protecting a teacher. He called the Prime Minister’s tribute to Lord Birsa Munda a “national resolve” and thanked India for its devotion to the legacy of Dharti Aaba.
Sharma highlighted several state projects aimed at tribal uplift. Hostel mess allowances were raised, 232 new Ma‑Baadi centres opened, and staff wages increased by 10 % for two years. He also noted that 839,000 tribal farmers received free hybrid maize seeds and 236,000 minikits. More than 150,000 women benefit from 530 Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, and about 5,000 tribal youth are getting skills training.
“Rajasthan’s tribal athletes shine too,” the chief minister said. The state secured five gold and one bronze at the third National Lacrosse Championship, and tribal girls clinched silver at the Asian Lacrosse Championship.
Sharma underlined landmark initiatives like the Dharti Aaba Tribal Village Utkarsh Abhiyan and the PM‑JANMAN program. These programs improve infrastructure, education, health, and livelihoods for tribal communities.
He also marked the 150th anniversary of “Vande Mataram,” noting it inspired freedom fighters from Birsa Munda to Subhash Chandra Bose and Sardar Patel. The chief minister called for continued support for tribal culture and development across Rajasthan.
