Tragic Road Accident in Bengaluru Kills Two, Including Woman; Brake Failure Suspected
A heartbreaking road accident in Bengaluru claimed two lives on Saturday morning, leaving several others injured. The crash happened at the busy Sumanahalli Junction on Kamakshipalya Road, where a speeding canter vehicle lost control and smashed into an auto-rickshaw and a car. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the vehicles collided with a loud bang.
The victims who died on the spot were D. Yeshu, the auto driver, and passenger Jennifer, a woman. Their deaths have shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers of heavy vehicles on crowded Bengaluru roads. Police from Kamakshipalya Traffic Station quickly arrived and started investigating the Bengaluru road accident.
In the car hit during the crash, four people – including a woman and a child – suffered injuries, but luckily, none were fatal. However, two passengers from the car are in serious condition and fighting for their lives in the hospital. The impact was so severe that the auto-rickshaw split into two pieces, turning the junction into a nightmare.
Authorities believe brake failure caused the canter to veer off the sloped service road and crash onto the main road. Since the auto ran on CNG, a gas leak posed a big risk of explosion. Firefighters and emergency teams rushed in, sealed the leak, and ensured everyone’s safety. Bengaluru traffic police are now probing the incident, focusing on vehicle maintenance and driver error in this fatal Bengaluru collision.
This tragedy comes just a day after another devastating accident in Karnataka’s Hassan district. On Friday night, a truck speeding through a Ganesh Visarjan procession in Mosale Hosahalli plowed into the crowd, killing nine people and injuring 20 others. The driver, accused of careless driving and overspeeding, turned a joyful festival into horror during the Ganesh immersion celebrations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the Hassan truck accident and announced Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia from the PMNRF for each victim’s family. The Karnataka government stepped up too, promising Rs 5 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased and free medical treatment for the injured. These back-to-back road mishaps in Karnataka have sparked calls for stricter traffic rules and better road safety measures during festivals.
As investigations continue, families of the victims hold on to hope while the city mourns. Stay tuned for updates on these shocking road accidents in Bengaluru and Hassan.
