In Anandpur Sahib on November 25, SAD President Sukhbir Badal urged the Sikh community to unite under his party’s banner so that Sikh institutions and shrines—currently overseen by the Centre and various state governments—could return to community control.
Speaking at a Gurmat Samagam at Gurdwara Sri Sis Ganj Sahib to mark Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th martyr‑day (Shaheedi Diwas), Badal said, “Till the time you don’t unite under a single banner, you cannot protect your religious institutions.” He blamed the SAD’s weakened position for the loss of management over Sri Huzoor Sahib and Patna Sahib. He also criticised the Indian government’s and Haryana’s heavy‑handedness in creating a separate Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in the state.
Badal lambasted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for using propaganda, claiming to’ve honored the holy city title for places that had already been granted the status a decade and a half ago by former CM Parkash Singh Badal. He further criticized the CM for disrespecting Sri Akal Takhat Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, saying anyone who fails to honor the Jathedar of the highest Sikh religious seat is an enemy of the community. “You should not tolerate such insults under any circumstances,” he added.
He also called on Sikhs to recognise the forces that seek to undermine their unity. “Wake up and see who are truly yours and who are the ones who try to weaken the community from within by pretending to be one of us,” he warned.
Drawing on Guru Tegh Bahadur’s example—who sacrificed his life to protect Hinduism—Badal noted how political parties across India push people of one faith against another for electoral gain. He urged everyone to learn from the Guru’s sacrifice and to adopt the principle of “sarbat da bhala” rather than sowing division.
