Dehradun-Mussoorie Highway Restored After Heavy Rains in Uttarakhand
Good news for travelers! The Dehradun-Mussoorie highway, hit hard by non-stop rains, is now mostly back in action. Circle Officer Mussoorie, Manoj Aswal, shared this update with on Thursday. "The road got damaged in many spots, but we’ve fixed it at most places," he said. He also calmed worried tourists, adding that around 1,500 to 2,000 visitors are in Mussoorie and everyone is safe. "No need to panic," he assured.
Earlier today, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami jumped into action. He visited disaster-hit areas in Raipur and Mussoorie assembly constituencies after a massive cloudburst wreaked havoc in Chamoli district. This sudden heavy downpour affected over 200 people late Wednesday night. From the Emergency Operations Centre in Dehradun, CM Dhami reviewed the relief and rescue efforts amid the ongoing monsoon chaos.
Talking to reporters, the CM gave a clear picture of the damage. "A cloudburst destroyed about 35 houses. Around 20 people are injured, and 14 are still missing. Over 200 folks in Chamoli felt the impact last night," he said. Rescue teams, including NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and police, have rushed to the scene. The District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police are there too, leading the operations. Injured victims are already in hospitals, with the most serious cases heading to AIIMS Rishikesh.
CM Dhami stressed quick action to move people to safer spots and repair damaged roads. He put all districts, NDRF, and SDRF on high alert for the rest of September until the monsoon ends. With the popular Char Dham Yatra in full swing, he urged pilgrims to check IMD weather forecasts before starting their journey. "Plan your yatra wisely to stay safe," he advised.
The CM didn’t stop there. He ordered faster relief work, quick supply of essentials to affected families, and priority reopening of blocked roads. He also pushed for restoring electricity and water supply right away. District teams must keep a close watch and help everyone in need, he added. All departments should stay ready for any emergency.
In a worrying update from Chamoli, about 10 people might be trapped under debris from the cloudburst. So far, rescuers saved two women and a child—they’re injured but got quick medical help at nearby facilities. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police are working non-stop on search and rescue after the floods damaged homes badly.
Uttarakhand’s monsoon season often brings such challenges, but officials are on top of it. Stay tuned for more updates on the cloudburst in Chamoli and highway repairs.
