ED Uncovers More Victims in West Bengal School Jobs Scam Involving TMC MLA Jiban Krishna Saha
In the ongoing probe into the massive cash-for-school-job scam in West Bengal, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has found several candidates who shelled out huge amounts to Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislator Jiban Krishna Saha. Shockingly, these people never got the jobs they were promised, and now they’re demanding their money back.
Sources close to the investigation reveal that in the months leading up to Saha’s arrest by ED on August 25, these frustrated candidates kept pressuring him to return their cash. The scam, which has rocked Kolkata and beyond, involves allegations of bribes for school teaching jobs.
A key breakthrough came from one of Saha’s two mobile phones, seized during his arrest. An audio clip from the phone captures a candidate pleading with him to refund Rs 12 lakh paid for a job that never materialized. ED sleuths jumped on this lead and tracked down other similar victims who paid equal or even larger sums but ended up empty-handed.
Now, ED officials plan to grill these candidates to dig deeper into the cash-for-school-job scam. This adds to the growing list of irregularities in the West Bengal school recruitment scandal.
Remember how Saha tried to dodge the arrest? On August 25, when ED teams raided his home, he hurled his phones into a nearby pond to destroy evidence. But his plan failed, and the agency recovered both devices intact. These phones have become a goldmine for the investigation.
Beyond these unfulfilled promises, ED has already identified 75 people who snagged jobs despite being on an expired eligibility list—after paying hefty bribes to Saha. The agency is questioning them in batches to unravel more details.
Saha, the TMC MLA from Burwan in West Bengal, remains in judicial custody. He faced an earlier arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is running a parallel probe into the school jobs scam. As the ED and CBI tighten the noose, more revelations could surface in this multi-crore fraud that’s shaking up Kolkata politics. Stay tuned for updates on the West Bengal cash-for-jobs scam.
