Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered praise on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during its big 100th-anniversary bash in New Delhi. He highlighted how the group has stayed strong without any bitterness, even after facing tough attacks, and always puts the nation first. But Congress leader Supriya Shrinate fired back, questioning why Modi would celebrate the RSS like this.
In an interview with , Shrinate didn’t hold back. “Why praise the RSS? Why is Prime Minister Modi giving them props for barely lifting a finger in India’s freedom movement? For writing apology letters to the British, snitching on fellow Indians, or even suggesting ways to crush the independence fight?” she asked. She pointed to darker chapters, like Nathuram Godse—linked to the RSS—assassinating Mahatma Gandhi. “Should we cheer them for getting banned by Sardar Patel? Or for burning photos of B.R. Ambedkar? There’s no real spot for women in the RSS, and they’ve never had a Dalit leader at the top.”
Shrinate kept going: RSS figures teamed up with Muhammad Ali Jinnah to run setups in North Bengal back then, insulted national heroes, and she said their hands are “stained with Gandhi’s blood.” To her, Modi’s words feel like a push to make the RSS look legit, but history tells a different story. “True patriots battled for India’s freedom—others just joined the RSS.”
Shrinate also slammed Modi’s warnings about India’s “unity in diversity” facing threats from infiltrators sparking a “demographic shift.” He called it a danger to social harmony and internal security, tying it to issues like job losses for young people and risks to women. This isn’t new—Modi echoed similar points in his Independence Day speech and announced a “Demographic Mission” to shield citizens from these infiltrators “snatching jobs from youth” and “targeting our sisters and daughters.”
But Shrinate called it out as empty talk. “What’s the PM really thinking? He’s been in charge for 11 years and still has zero plan to tackle infiltrators. You think an outfit like the RSS is going to fix it?” She noted how the infiltrator talk ramps up every election season, like recent voter roll cleanups in Bihar where names got axed—but how many were actually infiltrators? Under the earlier UPA government, she said, they identified and deported over 22,000 Bangladeshi infiltrators. “If it’s still a mess, that’s on the Home Ministry’s failures. Modi is basically owning up to his own shortcomings.”
