In Kolkata on Monday, West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose said he would forward detailed reports to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) about what’s happening along the state’s international borders with Bangladesh. The reports will cover the sudden influx of illegal Bangladeshi migrants who are gathering there, hoping to return home after the Election Commission of India announced the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) on November 4.
That day the Governor visited the Hakimpur checkpoint in North 24 Parganas – the spot that has seen the largest number of return‑migrants in recent days. While there he spoke with local officials and the media, stating he would submit his observations to the MHA. He also plans to travel to the border in Murshidabad, a district with a majority‑minority population, on Tuesday and will add those findings to the same report.
“I’ll keep touring other border points. Today I was at Hakimpur and inspected the posts. India leaves no room for infiltrators. The government is enforcing strict measures, and the Border Security Force (BSF) is actively patrolling,” the Governor added.
When pressed about allegations from the Trinamool Congress that BSF personnel at the West Bengal border were easing illegal infiltration from Bangladesh, he declined to comment. “This is an issue the Union government must handle, so I will not weigh in,” he said.
Later, the Governor called out a sitting Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, Kalyan Banerjee, for accusing him of sheltering “BJP‑backed goons” and providing them with arms from Raj Bhavan. “There’s a deliberate spread of misinformation about the SIR, just as the Lok Sabha member recently spread false claims about Raj Bhavan,” Governor Bose added.
