On November 23 in Johannesburg, LatestNewsX reports that Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to launch an IBSA Fund for Climate Resilient Agriculture, aiming to deepen South‑South cooperation.
He praised the Fund’s work, noting its support for projects across 40 countries in fields such as education, healthcare, women’s empowerment and solar energy.
The meeting was hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa with Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in attendance.
Modi said the timing was perfect, coming just before Africa’s first G20 Summit and following four consecutive Global‑South presidencies of the G20—three of which were led by IBSA members—resulting in key initiatives on people‑centric development, global reform and sustainable growth.
He stressed that IBSA is more than a trio of nations; it is a bridge across three continents, three major democracies and three sizable economies.
Modi highlighted how the partners can amplify one another’s progress and set an example for sustainable growth, pointing to collaboration opportunities in millets, natural farming, disaster resilience, green energy, traditional medicines and health security.
He also underscored IBSA’s potential to help shape safe, trustworthy and human‑centric AI norms, inviting leaders to the AI Impact Summit scheduled in India next year.
Modi urged that the institutions of global governance are out of sync with today’s realities and called for a decisive push to reform them—especially the UN Security Council—framing it as an imperative, not an option.
To harness technology for people‑centric development, he proposed an ‘IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance’ that would promote shared Digital Public Infrastructure such as UPI, health platforms like CoWIN, cybersecurity frameworks and women‑led tech initiatives across the three countries.
IBSA, bringing together India, Brazil and South Africa, is a forum that unites these large, democratic, developing nations to tackle shared challenges and collaborate on development projects. Established in 2003, it aims to foster South‑South cooperation and a more inclusive global governance system.
