Quetta, Nov 5 – Two Baloch civilians were killed by Pakistan‑backed death squads last month, officials of a leading human‑rights group said on Wednesday. The killings add to a growing list of extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances and torture that many say the state is sponsoring across Balochistan.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) named 31‑year‑old Najeeb Ullah, a junior teacher in Meri‑a‑Kallag in Kech district, as one of the victims. BYC says a white Toyota Corolla opened fire on him on Oct 30. “Najeeb’s death shows a pattern of staged encounters and state‑backed militia attacks that chill the province’s civilians,” the group warned.
BYC also reported on Abdul Khaliq, a former soldier of the Frontier Corps. Authorities forced him to disappear on Oct 28. Four days later, his body—bleeding and riddled with bullets—was found in the Kech River. Khaliq had refused military orders to torture or kill Baloch detainees, a move that made him a target. The committee said the police and other security forces backed by the state carried out the murder.
In related news, Paank, the human‑rights arm of the Baloch National Movement, condemned the disappearance of two other Baloch youths, Shayak Qambarani and Saleh Muhammad. According to Paank, Pakistani security forces and the Counter‑Terrorism Department (CTD) in Quetta abducted them. “Enforced disappearances break international law, including the ICCPR and the UN Convention on enforced disappearances,” Paank said. The organization called on the United Nations, Amnesty International and other global bodies to step in and demand the release of all missing Baloch people.
These incidents highlight a troubling trend of violence and impunity in Balochistan, raising alarms among human‑rights advocates and international observers.
