An art teacher in Colorado Springs is accused of murdering three people in a home just hours after he handed out Halloween candy to trick‑or‑treaters. Police say Matthew Regnier, 33, was found in a house in Colorado Springs wearing no clothes and covered in blood. He was holding a 2‑year‑old child when officers arrived to a domestic‑dispute call.
The child watched the attack and cried, police said. At the same time, three adults had serious stab wounds. The 2‑year‑old’s uncle died in the hospital, while the two women received life‑saving treatment. Regnier claimed he was acting in self‑defense, saying he was attacked from “three on one.”
Video taken in “selfie mode” shows Regnier screaming that he was choked before filming the hurtful scene. The victims’ ties to the teacher were not clear when police filed charges.
Regnier worked as an art teacher for Monument Academy and had also coached junior‑varsity soccer at Palmer Ridge High School. The district says it is helping investigators and it has fired him.
“We are heartbroken for our community,” said Executive Director Collin Vinchattle. “We are committed to supporting anyone who has been affected.”
