A 42‑year‑old Ohio man, Ryan Eagon, carried out a brutal shooting spree in Seneca County’s town of Tiffin on Wednesday night, killing his wife’s children and the child’s father before ending his own life.
Police say Eagon stormed his home while his wife, who was packing up to move out after months of domestic disputes, was alone with a 29‑year‑old boyfriend. The boyfriend, Dustin Willey, is the father of an 7‑year‑old son who was at the house.
When the couple heard the child cry, they entered the driveway and found Eagon holding a gun. He shot the 7‑month‑old baby, the 7‑year‑old boy and the child’s father, later pointing the weapon at his wife’s boyfriend and firing repeatedly. He then took his own life with a single bullet to the head.
The mother was severely shaken but survived. She called 911 and carried her dead children back into the house. The infant and the shooter died at the scene. The 7‑year‑old boy and his dad were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Tiffin, where they later died from their injuries.
Police Chief David Pauly called the tragedy “horrific and heartbreaking” for the Tiffin community. He urged residents to keep the families in their thoughts and announced a community vigil on Sunday at 6 p.m. at the East Green on E. Market Street.
Investigators are still working through the case. The Seneca County Coroner’s Office will determine the exact cause of death in each case once autopsies are completed.
The shooting has sparked a local conversation about domestic violence and gun safety in Ohio. Authorities urge anyone experiencing family conflict or feeling unsafe to contact emergency services immediately.
